An Excerpt from her Pen…

I run because I love to run. I started running to escape from a stressful life. I work as a scientist at the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD), we are researching on epigenetic mechanisms which maintain genomic integrity. What started as a stress buster is passion now! To me, running is synonymous to living now! Feeling of permanent runners high!!

I ran my first full marathon in 2004. I have run more than 15 full marathons so far including the high altitude Leh marathon in July 2014 and many half marathons. My personal best timing for a full marathon is 4:18. In 2015, I took up the challenge of running Comrades ultra marathon in South Africa which is 89km. I have successfully completed this race. For this, I ran 1200Km in four months. In 2018, I have run an inter-city, 280km run (Pinkathon promotion run) to inspire women to live an active lifestyle. This run was from Vijayawada to Hyderabad (280km) in 5 days. In 2018, I have also run the 12hr stadium run at Hyderabad where I have run 80.4km in 12hrs.

I believe education is a birthright for every child in India and worldwide and raised funds for the education of underprivileged children for Asha for Education. With a goal of educating underprivileged children, I ran my first full marathon, our team of 4 runners raised $5000 for projects funded by Asha for Education. I raised $1500 during my 2nd marathon. During my Leh marathon in 2014, I have raised more than Rs 1 lakh for funding education projects funded by Asha for education. During AHM, 2016 also I have raised more than Rs 1 lakh for an Asha project.

I love to be a pacer at marathons to help runners reach their goals. I have been a pacer for Airtel Hyderabad marathon, half and full marathons in 2011 and 2014 respectively and also at Bangaluru marathon in 2014, Airtel Hyderabad Marathon, 2016 (5h pacer), Hyderabad Ultramarathon, 2017 (50Km, 6hr pacer).

Running is a lot of fun! My advice to new runners – train well, listen to your body and enjoy your runs.
